Travel to the West in this soulslike game inspired by the legend of the Monkey King.

Black Myth: Wukong is a spectacular action RPG in the style of soulslike games based on the classic Chinese literature Journey to the West by Wu Cheng'en. Developed by Game Science, Black Myth: WuKong puts us in the shoes of Sun Wukong, The Chosen One, on an unforgettable journey through a land full of dangers and wonders. Clearly inspired by FromSoftware titles, the game recreates the story of the Monkey King with a new twist, while embracing the astonishing imagery of Chinese mythology. Despite having seen this same story recreated in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, Black Myth: Wu Kong presents itself as an epic and punishing adventure ready to compete for the throne of Dark Souls. Would you like to know more?

History: What is Black Myth: Wukong about?

Until now, little is known about the story of Black Myth: Wukong. However, we do know that its narrative revolves around the classic Chinese literature Journey to the West. In the game, we will take on the role of Sun Wukong, popularly known as the Monkey King or the Chosen One. Although we still don't know the extent of the story or whether it will be faithful to the original text, we do know that our character will be able to transform into different animals and forms, which is a key aspect of its gameplay.

Gameplay: A Dark Souls based on Chinese mythology

Black Myth: Wukong is essentially a soulslike game that offers a formula very similar to FromSoftware titles. In this way, the gameplay of the game is divided into semi-open maps where we will face countless enemies who will try to end our adventure. These maps can be explored in different ways, hiding a good number of side missions waiting to be discovered. But like any good soulslike, Black Myth: Wukong stands out for its spectacular final bosses, all of them inspired by Chinese mythology.

Thanks to the different trailers and demos of the game, we already know some of these bosses. Among them, we find in the first place the Guai Centipede, a terrifying giant insect with frenetic movements that releases poisonous gas. We will also have to face the Monkey Boss, an aggressive and gigantic monkey, or the bloody Vanguard Tiger. But if there is one thing that stands out about the final bosses of Black Myth: Wukong, it is that these battles are much more than a simple challenge. The battle scenarios are not static and change dynamically with the actions of the combat. In this way, the snow will accumulate on the ground the longer we take to defeat the opponent, and the rain will hinder our movements or those of our opponent, giving us the feeling of playing in a living world.

When is the release of Black Myth: Wukong?

We still don't know when we will be able to download Black Myth: Wukong. However, it is rumored that the game will be released in stores during the summer of 2024.

On what platforms can I download Black Myth: Wukong?

Black Myth: Wukong will be available on PC and next-generation consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X/S).

Become the Monkey King

Black Myth: Wukong is presented as one of the most attractive action RPGs of the moment. Its spectacular graphics and its mechanics inspired by soulslike games promise hours of challenging and punishing fun in a mythological world as chilling as it is beautiful. Despite not having an official release date yet, we hope the game will arrive on our computers and consoles by mid-2024. Are you going to miss it?
